Introduction
The Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology Department (COT) provides healthcare within the surgical, hospitalisation, A&E, outpatients areas of the hospital and primary healthcare centres in El Prat de Llobregat and Hospitalet de Llobregat.
The Department deals with all the pathologies in its area of healthcare and is a centre of reference in Catalonia for over two million inhabitants.The department is organised into different teams, who deal with all traumatic pathologies and precise, specific pathologies within orthopaedic surgery.In line with CatSalut plans, it is a benchmark for malignant tumoral pathology and for septic and complex replacements of hip and knee prostheses. The team of medical professionals is made up of 25 specialist doctors and 15 residents.

Multi-disciplinary Units
- Septics Unit. Head of clinic: Dr J. Cabo Cabo. Providing specific treatment for bone infections. This unit is coordinated with the Infectious Diseases Department and with the Microbiology Department.
- Functional bone tumor unit. (Coordinator: Dr F. Portabella Blavia). Located at the Duran i Reynals Hospital (Catalan Oncology Institute) and coordinated with the Departments of Medical Oncology, Radiotherapy Oncology, Radiology, Diagnostic Imaging Institute, Anatomical Pathology and Palliative Care.
- Functional diabetic foot Unit. Formed by specialists in Orthopaedic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Infectious Medicine and specialist nursing staff.
- CDUR (Centres, Departments and Units of Reference). The Department is accredited by the “Ministry of Health” as a Centre of National Reference for different pathologies:
- Septic pathology CDUR
- Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve CDUR (Along with Sant Joan de Deu Hospital)
- Sarcoma CDUR with the Catalan Oncology Institute (pending final resolution)

- Treatment and surgery for musculoskeletal system tumors.
- Spinal surgery: stabilisations, corrections, scoliosis, vertebroplasties for the treatment of various spinal disorders.
- Hand surgery.
- Back surgery: arthroscopies, prostheses
- Foot surgery.
- Infection surgery: prosthesis replacement, osteomyelitis, compound fractures.
