HUB-ICO-IDIBELL Biobank is the biobank of the hospitals attached to the Southern Metropolitan Territorial Management. It is located at the Bellvitge University Hospital. It is a public, non-profit organisation holding high-quality collections of human biological samples. By current regulations (Ley 14/2007, de 3 de julio de Investigación Biomédica y del RD 1716/2011, de 18 de noviembre), those samples are intended for biomedical research. The HUB-ICO-IDIBELL Biobank has been authorised by the Direcció General de Planificació i Recerca en Salut of the Catalan Ministry of Health. It is registered in the National Register of Biobanks of the Carlos III Institute of Health, following the RD 1716/2011.

The Biobank is attached to the Research Ethics Committee (REC) of the Hospital de Bellvitge and the External Scientific Committee (ECC) the biobank. (Members of the ECC: President: Dr Joan Cid; Dr Maria Ruiz; Dr Xavier Sanjuan; Dr. Montse Gomà).

  • To make biological samples and their highly significant scientific data available to the scientific community with the aim of contributing to the development of valuable knowledge in biomedical research.
  • To manage and standardise the campus’s sample collections and to create new ones according to the currently most relevant lines of research.
  • To promote quality practices and continuous improvement, always complying with ethical and legal requirements.
  • To guarantee the quality, security and traceability of biological samples and their associated data, ensuring rational and ethical use.
