Multidisciplinary unit of Bellvitge Hospital: expert in presurgical mapping techniques in high-risk patients who have to undergo neurosurgery.

Until July, a series of training sessions for ophthalmologists are being held to stimulate the use of 3D technology in ophthalmic surgery. The sessions consist of on on-site observation in the operating theatres of the Bellvitge University Hospital and of Wet-lab simulation at the Alcon Experience Center in Barcelona.

It is part of a campaign with a twofold aim: to raise awareness among professionals and visitors not to smoke inside the hospital and to support those who want to give up smoking. To convey this health message in a friendly and impactful way, during the day of 31 May, the mimes of Plàudite Teatre will perform artistic improvisations in areas of the hospital where people are smoking.

The dialogue between the patient and professional is one of the essential factors in the evolution of the approach to MS.

The hospital’s Multiple Sclerosis Unit leads a territorial care network for MS patients, which is pioneer in Europe. World Multiple Sclerosis Day is celebrated on 30 May under the moto"I connect, we connect".

Within the framework of the UB - HUB Chair, attached to the Bellvitge Campus of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona, 5 awards are announced for scientific publications. Its aim is to give visibility and promote the best research work in robotic surgery.

Dr Kenneth Michael Yun-Chi Chew, consultant in the Department of Cardiology at the National Heart Centre of Singapore (NHCS) and clinical instructor at Duke-NUS Medical School, has been at the HUB with the aim of acquiring knowhow on innovation in process management and the application of this methodology to the processes of a high complexity hospital.
