The procedures performed with surgical robots in Catalonia have risen from 1,288 in 2018 to 9,402 in 2025, representing an increase of over 700% in eight years. During this period, Bellvitge Hospital has been increasing its robotic surgery year-on-year, making it the Catalan centre with the highest activity in this field. It has six surgical robots, and last year it carried out 1,200 robotic surgeries, accounting for 15.5% of the total in Catalonia.

When atogepant, one of the newest preventive treatments for migraine, arrived in hospitals in 2024, clinical trials had already demonstrated its effectiveness in preventing migraine. What was still unknown was whether it would also work in people who had already exhausted all other available preventive options. Now, a study led by Hospital de Bellvitge and the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) provides the first answer: yes, a proportion of these patients also benefit.

The Symani robot allows for millimetre-precise surgery on blood vessels, nerves and lymphatic ducts to perform complex reconstructions, repair lesions and treat conditions such as lymphoedema or oncological sequelae.
