Dr Kenneth Michael Yun-Chi Chew, consultant in the Department of Cardiology at the National Heart Centre of Singapore (NHCS) and clinical instructor at Duke-NUS Medical School, has been at the HUB with the aim of acquiring knowhow on innovation in process management and the application of this methodology to the processes of a high complexity hospital.

A retrospective study by Bellvitge University Hospital and IDIBELL with 144 cases shows that intravenous treatment with lacosamide and phenytoin is effective and safe. However, lacosamide seems to cause fewer side effects and last longer.

On Tuesday 17 May, the city council invited the city's health authorities to the Palauet de Can Buxeres to express them their gratitude for "the great work carried out since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic". The mayor of the municipality, Núria Marín, and the councillor for Equity and Social Rights, Jesús Husillos, personally thanked the health officials and their teams for the "great dedication and effort over the last two years".

More than 3,500 runners participated in the 12th edition of the Hospitalet Night Run last Saturday, May 14. The race crossed the city with 5 km run and 10 km. In this edition, its solidarity cause was to raise funds for the creation of emotional well-being spots for the Bellvitge Hospital employees. The race bib “0” added to the one-euro donation per registration resulted in 4,008 euros. This amount will be allocated towards the creation of such spots, as part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the hospital.

The Daniel Bravo Andreu Private Foundation has awarded its grants for biomedical research stays at benchmark centres abroad to Dr Verónica Jiménez of the CIBERCV of Sant Pau Hospital–Sant Pau Research Institute (IIB Sant Pau)– Institute of Biomedical Research of Barcelona (IIBB-CSIC), PhD candidate Carles Diez of Bellvitge University Hospital–Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) and PhD candidate Pablo- Miki Martí of Pompeu Fabra University (UPF).
