Dr Lluís Riera, from the Urology Service of the Bellvitge Hospital, has participated in celebration of the National Transplant Day. The Catalan Transplant Organisation (OCATT) was the co-organiser of the event alongside the host, the Vall d'Hebron Hospital. Riera stressed that "being leaders in organ transplants is everyone’s credit, but especially the families’, who, even mourning a family member’s decease they donate organs to give life. It is the best demonstration of generosity towards others". Throughout the transplant process "doctor-patient bonds are established that transcend and go beyond the strictly professional." he added.

On Friday 25 March, a new Technical Clinical Session was broadcasted from the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB) as part of the postgraduate course in Endoscopic Ultrasonography Specialisation (USE) of the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). The Catalan Society for Healthcare Quality (SCQA) joins the Bellvitge University Hospital’s (HUB) 50th anniversary celebration by sharing with the Southern Metropolitan Territorial Management of the ICS the organisation of its annual conference. This will take place on Thursday 9 June in the Assembly Hall of the HUB. Under the theme of “Innovating by adding Quality to Care”, knowledge will be shared on innovative projects already underway. The participants will also reflect on the this field in order to set new goals. The conference is open to scientific papers on the subject, which will be eligible for a prize

According to the results of the EMPULSE phase III clinical trial, patients admitted for acute heart failure are 36% more likely to experience improvement within 90 days of receiving treatment with empagliflozin, an existing drug that is mostly prescribed for type 2 diabetes. Dr Josep Comin, head of the Cardiovascular Disease research group and head of the Cardiology Service at the Bellvitge Hospital, has been the state coordinator of the trial, which counted on the participation of professionals and centres from 17 countries around the world
