Bellvitge University Hospital has remained a leader in many of the indicators on organ and tissue donation as well as on transplants during the first half of 2021 in spite of the high demand for healthcare assistance caused by the Covid-19 pandemic

Older age, being a male, or suffering from certain chronic diseases such as diabetes or obesity has been linked to the development of severe forms of COVID-19. Now, a new study published in the journal Frontiers in Immunology has identified two new variants of the TLR7 gene that could predispose to severe COVID-19, and that would explain why some young men with no medical history develop severe pneumonia.

The first participation of Bellvitge University Hospital workers in the BCN Salut Games has been a great success. 73 people from the centre took part in different sport contests of this event. Their results made them win the Premi Rei de l’Eficiència (King of Efficiency award)
