The University of Barcelona has recognized the contribution of the CardioSimHub Chair, promoted by the Bellvitge Hospital and various industrial partners, as a model of innovation and knowledge transfer in cardiovascular health.
Along with other entities, institutions, and companies, the Bellvitge Hospital took part in the institutional recognition event for university chairs and classrooms, held on March 20 at the Paranimf of the Historic Building of the University of Barcelona. The event aimed to highlight the role of these instruments as bridges for collaboration between the university, research, and society, and especially their transformative capacity in fields such as health, technological innovation, and education.
One of the standout initiatives was the UB-HUB Chair in Cardiovascular Simulation (CardioSimHUB), created in 2024 to promote training and research in advanced clinical simulation in the field of cardiovascular health.
Led by Dr. Josep Comin-Colet, Director of Innovation, Research, and Universities at the Bellvitge-Viladecans Hospital Management, Clinical Director of the Heart Disease Area at the Bellvitge Hospital, and Director of the Bio-Heart group at IDIBELL and CIBER CV. The chair represents a pioneering project in Catalonia aimed at preparing professionals in realistic and highly technological clinical environments.
The project stands out for its access to cutting-edge technological resources, the extensive clinical expertise of the Hospital de Bellvitge’s Heart Area, and the teaching capacity of UB’s Bellvitge Campus.
Simulation in the Service of Better Care
The CardioSimHUB Chair uses advanced teaching methodologies—such as virtual and augmented reality, wet labs, high-fidelity manikins, and digital recreation of clinical scenarios—to train healthcare teams, patients, and the public, with the goal of improving clinical safety and system efficiency.
The project arises from a strategic alliance between the UB and the Bellvitge Hospital, and is supported by AstraZeneca, the Abbott Foundation, and Biotronik—three leaders in the development of cardiovascular technologies. The Advanced Medical-Surgical Simulation Center (SimHUB) at the hospital serves as the main site for this educational activity.
Institutional Recognition of Collaboration and Innovation
On behalf of the Bellvitge Hospital, Sílvia Cordomí, Deputy Manager of the Bellvitge-Viladecans Hospital Management of ICS, attended the recognition event.
The UB-HUB Chair in Cardiovascular Simulation continues to consolidate its position as an international benchmark project in the field of advanced medical training, with the goal of improving clinical outcomes and the quality of life for patients with heart disease.
