Once you are diagnosed with celiac disease, it is important that first-degree relatives (parents, siblings, children) undergo the study to rule out that they do not suffer from it.
Your family doctor can perform the study, which would consist of:
Performing an analysis with antitransglutaminase IgA and total IgA and genetic study of HLA DQ2 and DQ8 on all first-degree relatives of the patient.

- If antibodies are positive, referral to a digestive specialist is recommended to rule out celiac disease before starting a gluten-free diet.
- If antibodies are negative and HLA is positive: follow-up with antibodies every 2 years and if positive or symptoms appear, referral to a digestive specialist before starting a gluten-free diet.
- If antibodies are negative and HLA is negative: It is ruled out that the patient may develop celiac disease throughout life.
