Bellvitge Hospital presents a new book of stories written by patients

The third volume of the RELAT-Hos project book was presented today, an event that is part of the celebration of St. George’s Day, which the hospital wants to share with patients and professionals

Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB) advances the celebration of St. George’s Day to this Friday with the presentation of the book, Desde mi habitación (III). This is the third volume of stories in the RELAT-Hos humanization project, which has been running at the HUB since 2017. The project receives stories written by patients who find in writing a way to relieve pain, anxiety or boredom during your hospital stay.

The third volume of RELAT-Hos also adds to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Bellvitge Hospital as one of the greatest exponents of the humanization actions undertaken for years at the center. As highlighted in the book's prologue, Dra. Montserrat Figuerola, manager of the Southern Metropolitan Territorial Area of ​​the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS), we started with a conviction and now we have more than 150 tests to write from the hospital, during the illness process , is a huge communicative experience of personal empowerment and emotional well-being.

Nurse Antonia Castro, creator and coordinator of the project, considers, for her part, that “the impact of the project and the publication of the three volumes of the book comes directly to us with the response of patients, as we continue to receive stories for a future fourth volume. ” He also emphasizes that RELAT-Hos offers new formulas “that improve and facilitate our relationship with the hospitalized person. This approach and relationship that is established is an added value to make the stay in the hospital of the patient and his families more pleasant. ”

The presentation of the book took place today at an event attended by many of the speakers and the special intervention of Lluís Agustí, director of the School of Books at the University of Barcelona (UB), who explained the his experience as a reader of poems by telephone on demand during the hardest phases of the pandemic. During the event, all the authors of the stories included in the third volume were presented with the book.

This Sant Jordi also celebrates the first year of activity of the RELAT-Hos website, a space in which a dozen interviews with storytellers have already been published, as well as their corresponding stories, among other contents. en català, castellà i anglès.
