Before traveling

Vaccines for international travel

The number and type of vaccines required for international travel will depend on the destination, prior vaccinations, age, medical history, frequency of travel, purpose of the trip, seasonality, and the need for the International Certificate of Vaccination for yellow fever or meningitis ACW135Y, which is mandatory in certain countries. You should always get vaccinated well in advance of the trip to ensure that the vaccines are effective. Depending on the vaccine, the recommended time is between 15 and 30 days before travel. In some cases, more than one dose of a vaccine may be required, so the time needed before administration could be longer.

The vaccines most commonly recommended and/or used for travel to tropical and subtropical countries include:

Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid fever, Yellow fever, Tetravalent meningitis, Rabies, Polio, Cholera, other vaccines that may be necessary depending on age, underlying health conditions, or type of travel.
