A piece from the HUB for the exhibition "Fifty objects for fifty years" at the Museum of L'Hospitalet

-

The Museum of l’Hospitalet is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary with an exhibition of 50 heterogeneous and unique pieces linked to the history of the city, hitherto unpublished. On the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), and due to the relevance of this healthcare centre in the evolution of the municipality, its first oncological radiology apparatus is exhibited.

The social function of a city museum is to gather, conserve, research and disseminate local heritage, both tangible and intangible. For this reason, to commemorate its 50th anniversary, the Museum of L'Hospitalet has proposed a museographic exhibition that celebrates the city, its inhabitants and the Museum itself from a multifaceted and attractive perspective for all audiences. It is entitled "Fifty objects for fifty years".

It is therefore a multidisciplinary journey of nearby experiences, allowing visitors to think and learn about the different realities of L'Hospitalet throughout its history and its evolution. The HUB - which began its activity in 1972, the same year as the museum - has been invited to take part in the exhibition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of both institutions.

A Victoreen VAMP radiation machine belonging to the Hospital has been selected for the exhibition. The device, which dates back to 1975, was used to make sure that the radiation machines did not leak and that the environment was safe. This particular meter is of the Geiger Muller (GM) type, which has a tube with gas (helium, neon or argon). It could be both mounted on the wall or be used as a mobile device.

All the pieces in the exhibition are unique objects, found in different locations, not always on public display. The exhibition has been structured in thematic areas, generating groupings of pieces and, at the same time, weaving links between them. Emphasis has been placed on their testimonial capacity, allowing for multiple readings and learning.

The exhibition is open to the public and can be visited until 8 January 2023 at the Casa de l'Harmonia in l'Hospitalet, from Tuesday to Sunday between 11:00 - 14:00 and 17:00 - 20:00.
