The event was chaired by: Ernest Abadal, Deputy Vice-Rector for Teaching and Research Staff of the University of Barcelona (UB); Montserrat Figuerola, territorial manager of the ICS’s Southern Metropolitan Area; Antoni Trilla, dean of the UB Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; and Joan Miquel Nolla, coordinator of the UB Bellvitge Campus and video-academic of the UB Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The event was attended by 81 students of the 40th promotion of the Degree in Medicine of the Bellvitge Campus, who have been fully engaged throughout the event. The 2016-2022 medical promotion has decided to appoint as sponsors doctors Ernest Nadal and Maria Luisa Corral, both professors of the Department of Clinical Sciences of the UB Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
In addition, Dr Antoni Rafecas, who until this year has combined surgery with research at the Idibell and teaching at the UB Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences as a full university professor since 2001, and from 2017 to 2021 as the director of the Department of Clinical Sciences, has been named honorary patron.
His speech preceded the presentation of the awards by the members of the chair. The degree’s head of studies, Fernando Alcaide, read out the names of all the graduates whereas the sponsors presented the scholarships. Moreover, the coordinator of Final Degree Projects (FDP), Octavi Servitje, presented the award for the best FDP to Àlex Alcaide Aldeano, tutored by doctors Pere Moliner and Josep Comin of the HUB’s Cardiology Service.
The ceremony ended with the reading of the Hippocratic Oath before those present, who were standing for the Gaudeamus Igitur, the university anthem.
