The incoming manager will succeed Montserrat Figuerola, who is set to retire on June 30. Figuerola was honoured during today's presentation event marking the transition.

Cristina Capdevila, who will assume the role of Managing Director of the Southern Metropolitan Territorial Management (GTMS) at the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS) starting from July 1, was introduced this afternoon at an official event held in the hospital's auditorium. The event was chaired by Xavier Pérez, the managing director of the Catalan Institute of Health.

As recently announced by the ICS, Cristina Capdevila Aguilera, formerly the director of Bellvitge University Hospital, will take over as the managing director of GTMS upon Figuerola Batista's retirement. GTMS encompasses Bellvitge University Hospital, Southern Metropolitan Primary Care (comprising 61 primary care teams and 17 support care units), and Viladecans Hospital.

Cristina Capdevila is a specialist in family and community medicine, holding a diploma in Integrated Health Services Management from ESADE. She has worked as a specialist physician at Bellvitge University Hospital and Mutua de Terrassa Hospital. Additionally, she has held positions as the medical coordinator and deputy medical director of the Outpatient Area at Bellvitge University Hospital. Capdevila has also served as the healthcare director of the Mollet Health Foundation and has been the director of Bellvitge University Hospital since 2016.

During the event, it was announced that Maica Galán Guzmán has been proposed to the ICS Management Board as the new director of Bellvitge University Hospital. Galán is a specialist in medical oncology and holds a doctorate in medicine. She has worked as a specialist physician at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, and, since 1998, at the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO). Within the ICO, she has undertaken various responsibilities, including serving as the coordinator of the HUB-ICO Functional Unit for Esophagogastric Tumours, heading the Medical Oncology Service, and, from 2018 to 2022, acting as the associate director of ICO Hospitalet.

The primary focus of the institutional event held this afternoon was on Montserrat Figuerola, who has overseen the remarkable achievements of the team she has led over the past seven years. These achievements encompass improving the user experience, fostering professional development and talent management, driving research and innovation, and promoting networking. Figuerola has been warmly honoured by the attendees in recognition of the outstanding work she has carried out throughout this period, always showing a communicative and amiable demeanour.
