This year, the 9th edition of the Pedrera Talents Awards has awarded grants to 14 professionals from the four collaborating centers. The award, promoted by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, and in which the Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Vall d'Hebron Institut d'Oncologia and, as a novelty this year, the 'Bellvitge University Hospital, is a recognition and post-residency grants for young specialist doctors and other health professionals. Specifically, the Bellvitge University Hospital has awarded three researches: that of Dr. Roger Barranco on radial access in Interventional Neuroradiology; that of Dr. Sergi Codina on personalized medicine to prevent chronic damage in kidney transplantation using progenitor kidney cells as a marker and that of Dr. Alejandro Roset dedicated to heart failure, (IC) which is a very prevalent disease in our society and runs episodically with decompensations of advanced heart failure.
Also as part of the participation of the Hospital de Bellvitge in the Talents program, the call for grants for a territorial research project has been opened, with the aim of promoting multicenter and transversal projects, aimed at promoting coordination, synergies, collaboration and innovation between the different devices of the GTMS (Primary Care Costa de Ponent, Hospital de Viladecans, Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge). The deadline for submitting applications and documentation is March 31, 2021.
The Pedrera Talents Awards, part of the Talents program of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, are post-residency grants for young specialist doctors and health professionals considered excellent and relevant in each of their areas of 'specialization, who want to carry out a research project with the aim of doing a doctoral thesis, and at the same time remain linked to the hospital care. It also includes research intensification grants for senior specialist doctors to facilitate their research work in parallel with the healthcare activity.
Projects in a wide range of fields
The Hospital Clínic de Barcelona has selected two investigations, on the one hand that of Dr. Gerard Mayà on the detection of alpha-synuclein and degree of neuronal senescence in biopsies and surgical resections of peripheral organs in REM sleep behavior disorder as a premotor model of Parkinson's disease, and on the other, the nurse Mireia Graell with the Approach to Smoking in the Mental Health Day Hospital. The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute has selected the following research: Dr. Edgar Fadeuilhe on the porcine model and microwave-based non-invasive technology to monitor stent status; Dra. Eva Leceaga who studies the techniques and markers currently used in heart failure; Dra. Maria José Martínez, on the prognostic stratification of cariogenic shock and analysis with metabolomics techniques; Dr. Martí Paré, on the electronic dari of headaches in patients with episodic high-frequency migraine or chronic migraine and its impact on the quality of the record and on the quality of life; Dra. Mireia Gea, on high-intensity focused ultrasound for the treatment of refractory tremor in Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor and the creation of a pioneering care process in the national health system; Dra. Mónica Munera on DNA methylation in patients with atopic dermatitis: relationship with disease activity and response to treatment; Dr. Pablo Diaz on the evaluation by optical coherence tomography angiography of the change in macular vascular flow and its relationship with visual acuity in patients with macular regmatogen retinal detachment ON and Dra. Sonia Margarita Baeza on Radiomics and Radiogenomics in Lung-Radiolung Cancer Screening. The Vall d’Hebrón Institute of Oncology has awarded the research of Dr. Iosune Baraibar on the identification of biomarkers in response to Anti-TGFB and Anti-LIF treatments in colorectal cancer.
