Thoracic Surgery

Introduction

The Thoracic Surgery Department at Bellvitge University Hospital is a leading reference in the field of thoracic surgery, recognized for its technological innovation, multidisciplinary approach, and commitment to excellent patient care. We serve a population of over 2 million people from the Southern Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, offering comprehensive and personalized treatment to each patient.

Our department plays a key role in the surgical treatment of lung cancer, thanks to its integration with the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and the Lung Functional Unit. This allows us to address this disease in a coordinated manner, achieving the best possible results. With extensive experience in patients undergoing neoadjuvant therapies, we perform more than 8-9 surgical sessions per week, the majority of which are conducted using advanced robotic surgery, a technique that improves precision and reduces recovery time.

Additionally, we are a reference service for managing complex tracheal pathologies, accumulating long experience in reconstructions and high-complexity treatments. We also excel in the surgery of thoracic wall malformations and pathologies, as well as in multidisciplinary emergency surgical care, always prioritizing patient quality and safety.

We are committed to the ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) program, which optimizes post-surgical recovery and significantly improves the quality of life for patients.

Research and teaching are fundamental pillars of our activity. We actively participate in scientific publications and organize educational sessions for patients and their families, strengthening our mission to advance knowledge and provide more comprehensive care.

Our mission is to combine clinical experience, technological innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration to offer excellent surgical treatment to the people in our region.
