Dr. Valentí Fuster, director of the Cardiovascular Institute and Physician-in-Chief at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, will give the conference "Cardiology of the 21st Century. Heart and brain images", on February 25 at 1 p.m. as part of the commemorative events for the 50th anniversary of Bellvitge University Hospital.

Valentí Fuster combines his duties as director of the Cardiovascular Institute and Physician-in-Chief of Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York with those of director general of the Carlos III National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) in Madrid. In addition, he is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), the leading source of clinical information in the field of cardiovascular medicine and the leading publication of the American College of Cardiology.

Fuster és l'investigador català i espanyol més citat de la història, segons el rànquing del grup de recerca Cybermetrics Lab. He has published more than 1,000 scientific papers in international medical journals, as well as two of the most prestigious books on clinical and research cardiology: The Heart and Atherothrombosis and Coronary Artery Disease. He has been named Doctor Honoris Causa of more than 34 prestigious universities and is awarded the Prince of Asturias Prize for Research.

His contributions to cardiovascular medicine have had a major impact on improving the treatment of patients with heart disease. Among them are his research on the origin of cardiovascular accidents, which have helped to improve the prevention and treatment of heart attacks. In addition, he has been involved in a social responsibility as a disseminator that has led him in recent years to publish several books that are very well received by readers.
