Once completed the full refurbishment of the kitchen, which started a year ago, the new facility has started to operate. Since 27 February, it has been supplying 100% of the food for the canteens, and since 1 March it has also been supplying 100% of the food for patients.

The President of the Government of Catalonia, Pere Aragonès, today awarded the Josep Trueta medals and plaques to outstanding professionals and organisations in the field of healthcare. The ceremony has been held at the Palau de la Generalitat. Among the awarded names, there is also Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), which received a plaque in recognition of its task as a highest complexity reference centre for 2 million people. At the same event, Dr Mònica Povedano, head of section of the Neurology Service of the HUB, received one of the personal medals Josep Trueta.

Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB) has sent material, clothing and medical equipment to Ukraine in a special transport that left on 16 February. On the one hand, thousands of waterproof and isolation gowns and masks. On the other, electromedical equipment, such as anaesthesia trolleys, respirators and monitors, among others. This material will contribute to the assistance of the Ukrainian population, a year after the beginning of the Russian invasion.

Obtaining imaging biomarkers will help solve unanswered clinical questions about cancer and non-tumour pathology generated by the team at Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB).

This will be possible thanks to a project financed with European funds and promoted by the HUB's Diagnostic Imaging Service, which will allow progress to be made in 44 subprojects led by 20 researchers.

Radiomics is a new paradigm in the field of diagnostic imaging, which moves from a subjective interpretation of images for diagnosis to a quantifiable one based on the analysis of data that cannot be seen by the human eye. By applying algorithms and using artificial intelligence, these imaging biomarkers will be able to reveal the future evolution of the disease.

A study led by the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB) and the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) has discovered an encephalocele in the right temporal pole of the brain in some of patients.

Two patients have undergone resection of an encephalocele with optimal results by Dr. Fernández-Coello and Dr. Rosellón from the Neurosurgery service of the HUB.

Most epileptic seizures are not triggered by specific stimulus. But, in 1% of patients, it is triggered by intermittent light stimulation, showering with hot water, mathematical calculations, or eating act, among others.
